About Safeplay Playground Equipment

H.W.Commons (PTY) Ltd was established in 1946 by Herbert William Commons as a light steel engineering company shortly thereafter the Safplay range of playground equipment was introduced to cater for the domestic, nursery and primary school market. The child safe design and quality of the products soon established the company as the top manufacturer of playground equipment in what was then known as Natal, South Africa.
The company soon began winning municipal and government tenders for the supply and installation of playground equipment for public parks throughout the region. The already high quality and manufacturing standards evident in the Safplay playground equipment range meant that the company was easily able to satisfy the high standards and specification required by the tender boards. In fact many of the items in the Safplay range formed the basis for and were used in formulating the specification for the tender requirements.
Herbert's son Brian joined the company and later took over as owner/manager and continued the development of the Safplay range as well as consolidating the companies position as the regions top steel playground equipment manufacturer.
Brian's eldest son Paul later joined the company and for a while the company expanded its range to include wooden adventure playground structures to satisfy the demand for these products. The timber playground equipment market soon became saturated as many smaller companies entered the wooden playground equipment market and the timber play structures were dropped from the range. The company continues however to supply a range of add on steel components for timber play structures to the trade and private individuals.
In addition to the manufacture of steel playground equipment the company has always offered a diverse range of light steel engineering services and products including industrial materials handling trolleys, architectural steelwork, steel balustrades, palisade fencing, domestic and industrial burglar proofing, gate and access automation. The companies established factory premises are well equipped to handle light steel fabrication and manufacturing jobs of all types.
The company recently undertook a re-launch of its entire Safplay Playground Equipment product range under the new name Safeplay Playground Equipment to coincide with the launch of its website Safeplay.co.za. The same commitment to quality and the supply of child safe playground equipment will continue to be the cornerstone of the newly named Safeplay range.
The company is located in the Queensburgh industrial area outside of Durban.
